In the world full of MNC’s, the culture of startup is growing at a lighting speed. Being an experienced or a fresher, choosing between a startup and a MNC is really hard. Why shouldn’t it be hard! After all it is the most crucial decision for your future. So to explain this, I have listed down below a little information which will give you a clear idea on what to choose, MNC or a startup?

Skill Development:

Startup:

One can develop more skills within a shorter span of time. Not just technical skills but the experiences which will help throughout your life. Qualities such as dedication, teamwork, time management, cost management etc are developed. After all this is important as the skills acquired will help you grow faster in your career.

MNC:

Skill development graph is much moderate than startups. At times you won’t even develop skills at all for certain period of time if you’re not working on any project and not willing to develop them by your own.

Let me share an experience of my friend. One of my friend got placed in a reputed MNC and after 9 months of his working, the company made him sit on the bench for 2 years. Later when he decided to switch to another company, he faced many difficulties because he was lacking the skills that were required for a 2 years experienced candidate.

Work and Job Satisfaction:

Startup:

The company needs dedication towards work. You need to work harder day by day for the company’s growth. The growth of the company totally depends on each and every team member, which might also require spending extra hours at the office. But after a point when you’ll look behind, you’ll be satisfied see what you’ve achieved. Not only you, but also the company will be happy with your job. Plus, you will be constantly learning new things.

MNC:

You may have fix timings for work. Let’s say 9am to 5pm, but, the job satisfaction will totally depends on the work you get and your manager.

Growth/ Opportunities:

Startup:

As stated earlier you grow fast in terms of skills & knowledge. Another perk you have is getting extra opportunities to get lead position/designation in the company.

MNC:

At MNC you might need to wait years to be in a higher position as most of the company determine your role based on your experience in that field.

Salary:

Startup:

You’ll get less salary in a startup, but as the company grows, your value also increases, might be, further you may get shares in the company.

MNC:

You may get a higher salary in MNC compared to startups.

Politics/ Transparency:

Startup:

As a person you have more value in the startup. There is more transparency, you directly work with the founding members of the company.

MNC:

Often MNCs are less transparent, people get involved in politics to grow which might drag you down even if you’re more deserving.

Facilities:

Startup:

You need to work in a small place with fewer amenities/facilities, maybe a room or co-working space. It may not have facilities like recreation hall or other things. And yes many MNCs started in the garage.

MNC:

Most of the MNCs have big and deluxe offices with many facilities like a pantry, sports spaces and other privileges.

Conclusion:

It totally depends on you, what you want. A job which provides good salary with not much of faster growth or a little struggle to achieve great heights sooner. If you choose the later, then get ready to work really hard, it is not a kids play! The satisfaction you’ll get after a few years will pay off all the struggles you’ve faced. Everyone around will be proud to see you doing so well!
